A healthy and happy brain.

Healthy Brains

Kristen Sigward established the Healthy Brains (HB) Program in 2015 to cater to individuals with mild cognitive disorders and those interested in slowing age related cognitive decline. Kristen has spent years guiding individuals in adopting healthy brain habits to optimize brain function, enhance resistance to decline, and use the innovative BrainHQ computer program.
Over time, the Healthy Brains Program has evolved to incorporate research from neuropsychologist Dr. Tim Sigward and our team of mental health experts. The program offers an array of tools focusing on the 6 pillars of brain health and resources aimed at slowing cognitive decline.

Additional Program Information

Benefits

You and your family will have access to our care team which consists of a nurse practitioner and nurse care coordinators who will assist you in implementing changes that fit your schedule and goals with regular monthly check-ins. Our program is typically covered by most insurance plans and participants always have the freedom to opt-out whenever they choose.

Who is Healthy Brains for?

Age-related cognitive decline refers to the natural and gradual changes that occur in cognitive abilities as a person gets older. While these changes are considered a normal part of the aging process, they can vary widely from person to person and can impact various aspects of cognitive functioning.

Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is a condition that falls between the normal cognitive changes associated with aging and more severe cognitive decline seen in conditions like dementia. It's characterized by noticeable cognitive changes that are greater than expected for a person's age but are not severe enough to significantly interfere with daily functioning and independence.

Our Healthy Brains Program was created to provide evidence-based support to those with an MCI diagnosis in order to slow and sometimes prevent further decline.

Healthy Brains Process

During your first visit, you can expect to engage in discussions about your loved one’s medical and psychiatric history, current health concerns, and any symptoms they might be experiencing as well as a full list of current and previous medications. Your nurse practitioner will likely conduct a comprehensive history and might recommend or request certain diagnostic tests or screenings from your primary care provider based on your individual circumstances.

Your first appointment is also a great opportunity to establish open communication with your caregiver team, ask questions, and clarify any uncertainties you might have about your loved one’s health. You will also create a Care Plan with your nurse practitioner which will help narrow down your individual and family’s goals and needs. Once you have established a clear set of initiating goals, you will be contacting by one of our nurse care coordinators who will follow you and your caregiver team as long as you need. These calls will be at least monthly, sometimes more, in order to help you maximize function, independence, and dignity.
